What is an Admissions Interview?
Some schools will require you to participate in an admissions interview before they decide whether or not they will accept you into their school. While admissions interviews can be somewhat nerve-racking, they are an excellent opportunity for you to learn more about the school and stand out among your peers. Read on to learn more.
How an Admissions Interview Works
Every school has their own policy on admissions interviews. Some have them, some don't. Some schools may allow you to request an interview, while others, do not. It simply depends. In general, an admissions interview is meant to be an informative experience for both you and the school. It allows you and the admissions committee to determine whether or not you would be a good fit for the program and vice versa.
Admissions Interview Tips
If you will be participating in an admissions interview, you should try to find out if the interview is a formality or if it is part of the selection process. This will help you to properly prepare for what is to come. Here are some other tips that you can employ before, after, and during the admissions interview:
• Learn as much as you can about the school before the admissions interview.
• The interviewer will expect you to ask questions about the school, program, and student life. Devise a list of questions to ask before you arrive.
• Dress nicely and conservatively.
• Follow all of the regular rules of interviewing: firm handshake, eye contact, good grammar, etc.
• An admissions interview is a way for members of the school to get to know you. Be yourself!
• Send a thank you not afterwards to everyone who participated in the admissions interview.
