Student Housing Options
If you are thinking about college, you will need to start thinking about student housing. Besides tuition, student housing will be your largest expense. This article covers the different student housing options that may be available to you.
Dorms
Living on campus can have its advantages. With this student housing option, you can cut down on travel time and travel expenses. On the downside, you have to deal with roommates, and possibly, loud neighbors. The cost of living in a dorm varies and often depends upon the size of the school and the school's location.
Off-Campus Housing
If you don't want to live on campus, then you may want to consider off-campus housing. This student housing option is just like being out on your own. Unfortunately, that can be very expensive. You may have to pick up a roommate or two…or five just to cover the costs. For estimated off-campus student housing costs, contact the financial aid office at your school of interest.
Dormitory-Style Housing
If you want the best of both worlds, you can opt for dormitory-style housing. This student housing option is often available near larger schools. Just like a dorm, you have community bathrooms and share a room with other students.
Staying at Home
No matter what student housing option you choose, it's going to cost you. If your budget is already stretched thin, you may want to consider living at home with mom and dad, a family member, or a very good (and very generous) friend.
