College Application Checklist
The college application process can be overwhelming. By organizing the tasks you need to complete, you will make things much easier on yourself. This college application checklist can help get you started.
Acquiring College Applications
• Create a list of schools that you want to apply to
• Request a college application from each school
• Make note of the application deadlines
Transcripts and Test Scores
• Call or write your former school to request that your transcripts be sent to your new school or schools of choice
• Follow-up to see if the transcripts were actually sent
• Make sure SAT and other standardized test scores have been sent
Recommendation Letters
• Make a list of candidates who would be willing to write recommendation letters for your college application
• Politely request written recommendations from each candidate
• Collect recommendation letters and send thank you notes to their creators
• Read the letters over to make sure they will actually benefit your college application
College Application Essays
• If you were not given an essay topic, decide on a topic yourself
• Write the application essay or essays
• Proofread the essays carefully and correct all errors
• Have someone you trust read and critique your essay
Sending College Applications
• Look over your entire application one more time, and if possible, ask someone else to look it over before you send it out
• Make copies of every part of the college application
• Send the application as directed by the college and confirm that it has been received
